Locus 1.0.4 Update
10-Jun-2009  (with updated camera database from 17-Apr-2009)

When available, we offer free maintenance updates to users of Locus. "Maintenance updates" are minor revisions of the program and are identified by changing the last segment of the version number such as 1.0.1 to 1.0.2, etc. They are not version upgrades where the first segment of the version number changes such as 1.0.2 to 2.0.0. New versions must be purchased.

IMPORTANT: Locus 1.0.4 contains significant internal changes since the previous versions that make a traditional "update" impossible. With a traditional "update", you would download and run an "updater" program to modify and replace only those files that need to be updated. Version 1.0.4 requires too many system-level changes to allow a simple "update".

All users with an older version of Locus will need to remove the old program first and install the new version with the full installer. Registered users will then need to enter their original registration codes again in order to use the new program. We apologize for this inconvenience but we could see no other way to provide you with new camera database features and improved Windows Vista compliance.

For detailed Locus removal instructions see the following links: Locus removal from Windows XP. Locus removal from Windows Vista.

If you have previously tried Locus and its Evaluation Period has expired, then installing the new version will not extend or reset your Evaluation Period. If your Evaluation Period with an earlier version of Locus has not yet expired, then don't install the new program until after you have finished evaluating Locus because the new version will cause an early termination of an existing Evaluation Period and there will be no way to start a new Evaluation Period on the computer. For more information on purchasing a license, please see our Purchase page.

How to identify which version of Locus is installed on your computer

The easiest way is to launch Locus. The version will be display in the upper right corner of the title window as shown below:

The Version Number is circled in red.

If the program is already running, you can select the "About Locus" command from the Help menu to display the title window. Notice below that the title window includes more information when it is opened using the "About Locus" command. It also includes the creation date and time for the program as shown below:

The Creation Date and Version Number are each circled in red.

If the program is not running, you can check the version with the Windows Explorer. Navigate to the folder where Locus is installed (the default path is "c:\Program Files\HT Locus"). Then right-click on the program file, "Locus1.exe", and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu. (Note: Windows may not be configured to show file name extensions so you may see only "Locus1" instead of "Locus1.exe".) The "File Version" is listed at the top of the "Version" tab. The file date is labeled "Created:" and is located on the "General" tab.

So many changes were made that a version 1.0.4 "update" is not available. Please remove all old copies of Locus and download and install the new 1.0.4 version of the program using the full installer here. Registered users will need to enter their original registration code again after installing the new version.

Locus removal instructions for Windows XP are here and removal instructions for Windows Vista are here.

Do not install the new version if you have an older copy whose Evaluation Period has not yet expired. If you do, your Evaluation Period will terminate. It would be better for you to wait until you have finished evaluating Locus and install the new version when you are ready to purchase a license.

Issues addressed by this update include:

New Feature: Expanded the support for old-style sensor type designations such as 1/2.5-inch, APS-C, 4/3, etc. These are called the "Format Type" in Locus. The fractional inch labels are used primarily by compact and point & shoot cameras. Two modes were added to the Preferences window to select whether Locus will use "calculated" or "reported" dimensions when a Format Type is selected. A "Type" combo list was added to the Camera Database Editor window to facilitate both the display and selection of Format Types. New material was added to the User Manual to explain Format Types. For example, the Locus Illustrated Dictionary explains the history of the two primary sources of Format Type names and what they mean. The Camera Database Editor topic includes a detailed table with the names and dimensions of most Format Types.

New Feature: Added support for the new Micro Four Thirds standard so cameras that fit this standard can be properly noted in the Camera Database Editor.

• Improved the program's compliance with Microsoft's standards for Windows Vista. Locus no longer requires a "Virtual Store" for its workfiles.
